One of my lovely readers suggested I write more DIY posts and I totally agree with the idea. Not everyone always has that extra cash for natural hair products so it’s certainly okay to whip up something in your kitchen that can do almost the same work as your deep conditioner.
Also, this DIY moisturizing deep conditioner was what I used to prep my hair for my White Box Braids and it left my hair feeling soft and moisturized.
- Mayonnaise – 4 tbsp
- Honey- 2 tbsp
- Olive oil- 2 tbsp
- Apple Cider Vinegar- 1 tbsp
- Vitamin E- 1 capsule or 5 drops
*The measurements make about a 100ml and is suitable for medium length hair. If you have long hair, double the amount.
Mayonnaise is the protein, honey is the humectant, olive oil and vitamin e are both conditioning agents and apple cider vinegar is for shine and balancing the pH level of hair.
I used the Heinz brand for the mayonnaise and my honey was locally sourced so it had no preservatives or additives. The olive oil brand I used is called Laser, the apple cider vinegar brand is called Magic Time while the vitamin E capsule brand is called Puritans Pride. You don’t have to use the same brands, any brand you have in your kitchen that works for you is good enough.
Put all your ingredients in one bowl and mix for 30 seconds or more until smooth. If you want it thicker add an extra spoon of mayonnaise. To apply, completely coat your ends first, then gradually work up the length of your hair. Leave the conditioner mix in your hair under a shower cap for 20 minutes before rinsing.
This DIY mix should leave your hair & hands soft and should also add a little shine. The smell is also very mild for my girls with sensitive nostrils. (I gotchu!)
