Hi lovelies! How are you all doing this Saturday morning? Great I hope.
For me, I am drawing closer to my eight week mark to take out my kinky twists, so I thought I should share a few tips on what I feel is the best, laziest and stress free way to maintain the health of your golden locs while under a protective style.
- Cleansing- I prefer to use cleansing wipes (face or baby wipes) to gently massage all over my scalp because its hassle free and I don’t have to bother about how much lint will be stuck in my hair when I want to take my protective style out. More information can be found in the video below.

- To Moisturise- Look for the best hair spritz that works for your hair or even better dilute your leave in conditioner. The point is you should use a liquid moisturiser. Regularly spritz your hair along the protective style twice a week. (I’m thinking twice a week should be good enough for even the laziest of us) 😉
- Shed Hair- If you’re wearing your hair in either box braids, havana twists etc. you will notice after two or three weeks that the roots of your shed hair begin to stick out of the braids in front. Not to worry, you have two options. Firstly, you can gently pick them out. Don’t worry if they break in the process, its shed hair already so its fine. Or, the second option, you could loosen the front and have them re-braided. That way, it keeps your protective style looking fresh and neat.
It’s as simple as that, how I keep my natural hair properly ‘protected’ under a style. I hope this helps and if I left something out, please share in the comments below. Thanks for reading.
Have a wonderful weekend!
