White Box Braids
Three days before I installed my Impression Super Braid in White, I prepped my hair by;
- Shampooing with Phytolisse Perfect Smoothing Shampoo,
- Deep conditioned only my ends with Phytolisse Express Smoothing Masque and the rest of my hair with my DIY mix. (Click here for details).
- Next, I steamed my natural hair for 20 minutes before rinsing out the conditioner with cold water and doing a final rinse with Apple cider vinegar. (1 tbsp to a glass of water).
- After that, I squeezed out the excess water with my hands and applied Pyhto defrissant hair balm. Then I lightly blow-dried my hair thinking I would have the strength to also braid my hair on the same night but, by the time I was done, my arms and shoulders felt like they had undergone an extreme workout so I decided against braiding my hair that night. Instead, I parted my hair neatly in small boxes and twisted it.
With DIY Box braids or twists, the part that takes the longest time isn’t the actual braiding but how long it takes to create a neat part and detangle.
On Thursday night at around 8pm, I took down one twist, applied Shea Butter Cottage Cioccolatina Light Bamboo Hair Treatment, detangled and began braiding. I repeated the steps until I got to half my head and my brand new Shea Butter Cottage Cioccolatina Light Bamboo Hair Treatment finished. At that time was 3am and I decided it was time I went to bed because I had to be up in 3 hours. (Don’t ask me why I decided to do my hair during work week, I honestly don’t know).
For work on Friday, I put both my twisted natural hair and fully white braided hair under a head-wrap and no one at work had a clue. 🙂
I resumed braiding again at 8 pm later on the same day and used Lotta Body Curl & Style Milk to moisturize my hair before detangling. I finished braiding at 1 am.
So the total amount of time I used to install my long box braids myself without blow drying and previously parting was 12 hours spread over two working days.
This is my first time using a very bright braid attachment and I love it! What is the brightest colour you have ever dared to wear? Spill it in the comment section below!
…and oh, I don’t have any problems wearing my hair like this to work.

Really bold, and I like it!
Your job must be the dream yo, that you are able to wear this to work. Really lucky you!
I’m presently wearing Marley braids, with a few of them, grey. I was a little worried about this- which is why I didn’t use all the grey extensions that I had however, so far, no one has complained at work ^.^
Haha! Thank you dearie!
To be honest, when I bought the braid attachment last year, I thought they were grey because it was a bit dark in the store. Later on, it was my sister that pointed out to me that they were white. You can imagine the look on my face when I actually checked and saw they were white. haha! Anyway, I was a bit worried about how it would turn out, but hey, even I am impressed.
I like it! So daring. Love.
Most daring I’ve ever done- grey shaggy bob braids. I tried blonde marley twists first and it was a slippery slope to grey. I’m trying to get up the nerve to use the platinum blonde attachment I bought last year. Same brand as yours I think.
Naija girl next door
Thank you dearie!
Go for it! I’ve worn blonde before and I loved it too. For me, braids are the perfect way to experiment with colour so I encourage you to go for it!
Let me know if you do.:)
Girllll you are so brave but for real I love this look…how long do you plan to leave them in for?
Thank you darling! I plan on keeping it for maybe 6 weeks. I’m not sure yet.
Its beautiful..i’m planning on wearing grey faux locs next month. 🙂
Thank you dearie. Looking forward to seeing you rock yours! 😀
