In February, I introduced my 6 months Hair Growth Challenge.
I shared the healthy hair routine I would be doing, the products I planned on using, and even the resources that would help me be consistent.
Now, it’s six months later and I’m so happy to be here with an update.
A number of things I mentioned initially changed as time went by and the first of which is my regimen.
Updated Hair Routine
Earlier I declared that I would be washing my natural hair every two weeks but in some months like May and July where I installed braid extensions, I only washed my hair after a month.
My routine also switched to detangling and pre pooing with both conditioner and oil first. Then Shampoo, deep conditioner, ACV rinse, leave in conditioner, cream and oil.
I also said I would be finger detangling all through but to be honest, I struggled with this for the first month but after that I got the hang of it again and from then on, everything was a breeze.
For protective styles, I made mostly buns, twists, knotless braids and kinky twists. In hindsight, the protective styles that included extensions seemed to do more harm than good and I’ll share why soon.
Products
The products I used for he past 6 months also changed.
Firstly, I will always recommend products based on my knowledge at the time, their quality and how they react with my 4c hair type.
It is important for me that you use the best products available for your hair type and I will always make sure to recommend good products to you.
So far, these are the list of products that outshined all others I used in this period.
- Mill Creek Biotin Shampoo – https://go.magik.ly/ml/19ac8/
- Equibotanics Black Seed Hair Serum

Resources
The IgboCurls Natural Hair Growth Planner enabled me to stay consitent with this challenge.
Honestly, don’t underestimate the power of record keeping.
Using this hair growth planner helped me keep track of what was working for my hair and what was working aganist my hair.
For example, if I noticed my hair was a lot drier than it normally was, I would go through my natural hair journal to see what I had done differently with my routine.
Doing this regularly helped me notice when I used products that were bad for my hair.
You can find the natural hair journal here.
All of the other practices I used to grow my 4c natural hair are also in my book 50 Tips and Tricks To Grow Your Natural Hair Faster & Longer.
