My hair is currently in Kinky twists. I put them in myself on the 3rd of March and plan on taking them out on the 28th of April. I keep my braid attachments in for eight weeks only and with this habit, I ended up with a hair timetable. I braid my hair two or three times in a year and keep it in for 8 weeks which is two months. With that, I have four or six months of my hair protective styled. That way, I leave my hair to grow in peace and retain a lot of length.
This current Kinky twists took a total of 14 hours. (Don’t be alarmed, it wasn’t in one go although I could have done that if I wasn’t so tired on the first night). I remember it took me almost 48 hours the first time I tried braiding my hair myself. I was a complete novice and my arms were burning with pain. Not anymore though, I have gotten used to it and as a result my arms are really fit. Yay!
I used 4 packs of Noble Premium Gold Hair that I purchased from an open market here in Nigeria and it is relatively inexpensive. The final look is in the pictures below.

Hi just stumbled on your blog, your kinky twists look really nice. How did you start it? Did you start by braiding or your started twisting straight up?
Thank you and yes, I braided it a little before I started twisting.
Heyy..It looks nice. Did you cut the hair into two or you used as is.
Thank you! I used it like it was. Straight from the pack, thats why its long.
How many packs did you use?
4 packs
Hi Sis. I was just introduced to your page today, and I’m so inspired. Do you have pictures of styles you had in the first two years after your big chop? I need ideas that are healthy so that I can one day get to where you are. I just always damage my hair in the initial stages because its so fragile. Thanks in advance, and keep doing you!
Hi love! Thank you for your kind words and I’m elated that you are inspired. I do have pictures of styles I did. The problem is just locating the pictures. haha. But I’ll do just that since you’ve asked. Thank you for stopping by and stay inspired!
Hi Chinwe, your hair is really nice. I have tried braiding my hair with extensions like twice but they never really look as neat as thus, especially the parting. Please how do you part your hair while braiding?
Hi Monique! Thank you! I usually part my hair with my fingers first before I use a rat tail comb to make it neat. To be honest, for the back, I just feel my way through my scalp and once it feels neatly parted, I braid. For the front, I do the same thing but I use a mirror while parting so it’s a lot neater than the parts at the back that hardly anyone sees.
Just stumbled on this. Currently have kinky twists installed but don’t know how to take care of them.
Can i wash it or apply any hair products?
Was advised to use hair mousse but which is really better, hair mouse or oil sheen or both.
Thanks.
Hello Chisom,
You need to moisturize your twists at least twice a week with a leave-in conditioner mist like Aphogee Vitamin leave-in or Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier.
I wouldn’t advise you wash it except your hair is extremely dirty because I find that the dirt gets stuck where the twists meet your hair when you eventually take down your twists.
Use a hair mousse. Hair sheen is only for shine.
I hope this helps!
