This post first 5 Summer Beauty Hacks To Save Your Natural Hair from Heat Damage appeared on Igbocurls.com
One would think that by August, this heat would have at least slowed down a little but with weather reports recording 2018 as having the hottest summer on record, global warming is indeed here to stay. People have been hospitalised in Japan due to the unusually high temperature of 40+ degrees and droughts are being recorded in England due to lack of rain and high temperatures. The wildfires in California don’t seem to be slowing down either plus so many more weather issues that are going on around the world.
What does this mean for our health, skin and hair?
So much! But today we will be dealing with how you can protect your hair from the damaging effects of the sun this summer. You can also find more on this topic on Instyle and Gurl.com
- To Avoid hair colour change: Spritz with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar to avoid colour damage from UVA/UVB rays from the sun and saltwater if you are going swimming.
- Stop your Natural Hair from being dry and breaking by deep conditioning and moisturising regularly. (Every week or every two weeks is fine)
- Control Frizz on Your Natural Hair by applying Olive Oil,Avocado oil or Shea butter. These heavy oils and butter will weigh your hair down and maintain your hairstyles.
- Natural hair sunscreen– Your best bet is to wear a hat as it doubles as a sunscreen for your hair and face.
- Stop Chlorine from damaging your hair by either wearing a swimming cap or using a leave in conditioner and oil to seal your hair cuticle before diving into the pool.
I hope these tips were helpful. Be sure to protect yourself in this heat and stay hydrated at all times!
