This post DIY Bentonite Clay Hair Mask for Hair Growth on 4c Natural Hair first appeared on Igbocurls.com
Hi lovelies, its Chinwe Juliet here, and since we have all been stuck at home, I thought why don’t we treat our hair.
Some of you, like me, may have run out of hair products. Or are in plain need of treating yourself, your skin, and your hair and that’s where today’s video comes in.
This video shows how to make a DIY clay mask for 4c natural hair that you can use to treat your hair like a spa treatment at home to help encourage hair growth.
You will need the following:
- Bowl
- Wooden Spoon
- Bentonite clay or any clay of your choice. (Use what you have available)
- Rice Water
- and Apple Cider Vinegar
10 Benefits of Bentonite clay (Indian Aztec Clay)
- It draws out dirt and impurities from hair and scalp.
- It softens and conditions
- Defines curls
- Removes dead skin cells from the scalp
- It promotes healthy hair growth
- Helps to soothe irritated and flaking scalp
- It moisturizes
- Reduces frizz
- It also removes bacteria and viruses, and impurities from the scalp.
- Bentonite clay is also known to be negatively charged thereby attracting positively charged product build-up and heavy metal toxins which result in completely cleansed natural hair.

How To Use Bentonite Clay Mask on 4c Hair
For the length of my natural 4c hair (30 inches), I will be using the following formula.
- 1 and a half cup of Bentonite Clay
- Half a Cup of Apple Cider `Vinegar
- and 200ml of Rice Water to make a smooth paste
Once I mix it all into a smooth paste, I part my hair into 4 twists, then I spray some rice water to get it damp and use my homemade Aloe Vera oil.
After I am through rubbing in my Aloe Vera oil, you can find the formula here. I then proceed to apply my Aztec Bentonite Clay Mask.
I make sure to coat all my strands with the Bentonite clay mix. In this case, I chose to avoid applying it on my scalp because I felt my scalp did not need any deep cleansing, but you can apply the homemade mask on your scalp if you want to.
This is what my hair looked like when I was done.
Once I finished with my natural 4c hair, I proceeded to make another batch of the DIY homemade mask to use on my face.
Homemade Facial Clay Mask
For this mask, I used;
- A spoon of Bentonite Clay
- A spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar
Your goal is to make sure the clay is made into a smooth paste. Not too runny and not too thick that it has lumps.
After rinsing out the bentonite clay mask, I shampoo and deep condition, then proceed to style my 4c natural hair.
This is what my hair looks like after rinsing.
Also since I was treating myself, I also followed with a Garnier moisture Bomb face mask but you can use any mask you have.
I massage all the serum from the mask into my skin and once I peel it off, my sensitive skin looks super hydrated.
