DIY Hot Oil Treatment Formula
1 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Cup of Castor Oil
1/2 a cup of Almond Oil
1 cup of Amla Oil
1 Cup of Palm Kernel Oil
1/3 Cup of Wheatgerm oil
Once you have poured in the measurement of this hot oil treatment into preferably a dark bottle, you should have this golden semi-thick oil mix.
You can proceed to put it in a bowl with hot water to warm it up but this is optional.
Next section your hair into twists. My hair was in a few weeks old twists already so all I had to do was take each twist down, mist with water and then completely coat each section with the hot oil mix before re-twisting and moving to another section.
I leave this hot oil treatment in for about an hour (you can leave it in for 10-15 minutes if you don’t have time).
I also make sure to stay active within this hour to encourage blood flow to my scalp. (If you do this, your body generates the required heat needed to absorb the oils into your hair shaft. That is why pre-heating the oil is optional).
By the time I take off my shower cap, my hair is entirely naturally steamed, and my 4c natural hair has also wholly absorbed all the benefits of the oil mix.
My natural hair felt soft, moisturised and shiny.
Hot oil treatments are great for natural hair, especially 4c hair because it helps prevent your shampoo from drying out your hair and scalp. It also keeps your 4c hair soft and moisturised throughout your wash day process.
