Natural Hair WashDay with Cantu Products
To start of wash day, I tried to use the Cantu daily oil moisturiser to Pre-poo, but then I realised I had gel in my hair which acted as a barrier to any additional product.
So instead, I rinsed out the gel thoroughly first, before sectioning my natural hair into four parts. Sectioning your natural hair first helps to reduce tangles, it gives easy access to your roots and enables you to cleanse your hair better. It is especially great for transitioning hair and natural hair that is at the awkward length stage.
Cleansing
I shampooed with Cantu Sulphate-Free Cleansing Cream Shampoo.
It comes in a 400 ml squeezable bottle with a flip cap. This shampoo has a mild fragrant smell like all the products mentioned above, and a little goes a long way.
It is creamy and lathers very quickly! Even with the product build-up on my natural hair, the shampoo lathered on contact. I applied this shampoo twice on each section and rinsed it out.
I liked how I could detangle a little with this shampoo, and it did not leave my hair feeling dry. However, it did make my hair feel super clean like it was clarified.
The ingredients of Cantu Sulphate-Free Cleansing Shampoo can be found at the bottom of this article.
Conditioning
Next, I put my hair into twists once I noticed my ends began to entangle.
After rinsing, I follow up with Cantu Sulphate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner.
It also comes in a large size of 400 ml and squeezable translucent bottle with a flip cap. I like that these bottles are easy to grip and non-slippery while using in the shower.
For me, the fragrance of this conditioner with the deep treatment masque is more pungent than the other products I received in this Cantu range. If you are sensitive to smell like me, be sure to use these products in a well-ventilated room. This conditioner also creamy and can be used to detangle in the shower.
However, I prefer the Cantu Deep Treatment Hair Masque because it detangles my type 4 natural hair easier and faster. It provides enough slip for me to run my fingers through my hair and also detangle at a much faster pace with only my fingers.
My hands felt super soft, and I covered my hair with a shower cap to let both conditioners absorb for 30minutes. You don’t need to mix both conditioners. I did so because I wanted to try both without having to wait for another wash day that is why I combined them.
However, the only thing I noticed was even after coming both the Cantu Cream conditioner and Cantu Deep Treatment Masque, after rinsing, my strands were hydrated but not soft to touch.
Styling
For styling, I made a cocktail using 5 Cantu styling products. I know I sounds too much and yes it really is, but I was really curious to see how it would turn out. Usually, it is risky to cocktail this many products even if it is from the same brand but it worked! All 5 products listed below, completely absorbed into my hair when it was completely dry.
Cantu Coil Calm Detangler. This product comes in a 237 ml transparent plastic spray bottle container. It is white and is water-based. If you have been following my content for a while, you will know I am an advocate for liquid-based moisturisers that can easily be applied.
I used this Cantu Coil Calm Detangler as a leave-in conditioner. It is lightweight and absorbed into my natural type 4 low porosity hair.
After application, the Cantu Coil Calm Detangler was not enough to detangle my hair with so I followed with Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream.
This product, along with Cantu Coconut Curling Cream, made my curls pop and kept my hair detangled. I have used the Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream in the past and, you can read my review on it here.
It comes in a large styling 355ml bottle. This product is thick, creamy, and you have to squeeze the bottle to get the contents out.
I used equal dime-sized amounts of both the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream and The Curl Moisturising Activator Cream on each section of my hair and then added only little of the Cantu Moisturising Twist and Lock Gel after.
To seal everything in, I used the Cantu Tea Tree & Jojoba hair and scalp oil. I particularly love this oil because it is light, absorbs fast and it comes with an applicator cap.
Once I was all done applying all products, my hair felt weighed down, but once it dried, my hair was very moisturised and bounced easily.
You don’t have to use all five products to style. Depending on the style you want to achieve two styling creams with the oil is enough. For example, I noticed the curl activator cream and the coconut curling cream go well together. It may be suitable for twist outs and braid outs. Or you can mix the Coconut Curling Cream and the Twist and Lock Gel.

The final product I used was the Cantu Edge Stay Gel. I have used several edge controls in the past, but they barely last 5 minutes on my edges. Especially when I start sweating around the perimeter of my head, everything disappears like I never applied anything in the first place, but this product surprised me. Not only did it last more than 10 minutes, but it also sleeked my edges and gave it shine! This Cantu edge stay gel has now become my go-to Edge Control as you can see in my styling videos.
In summary, this natural hair washday with Cantu products turned out well. I am happy with these Cantu Products I tried. My favourites are the Cantu Cream Shampoo, Cantu Deep Treatment Masque, Cantu Coil Calm Detangler, Cantu Curl Activator Cream and The Cantu Edge Stay Gel.
