After my failed attempt at my previous roller set, I decided to try again. This time with a pocket full of knowledge from my last experience.
Avoid rollers with teeth
Avoid heavy products
Avoid products with glycerine
and always allow your hair to completely dry.
I avoided all three mentioned above and made sure I allowed my hair to completely dry. I used Annie Professional Hair care 6 Snap-On Rollers in X-Jumbo size and I had a pack of three which gave me 18 rollers. (This was not enough for my hair so I made my sections bigger).
Then I went through my product stash and began looking for a product without glycerine. One of the few products I found was Phyto Paris Winter Essentials For Frizzy, Unruly Hair. I bought this last year at TK Maxx for £16.99 and the regular retail price is $62! Talk about a bargain. Anyway, this was the first time I would use a product from Phyto Paris and I was not sure what to expect.
Phyto botanical hair relaxing balm
Phytodefrissant
These are very uncomfortable to sleep in.
I replaced the shampoo with Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Shampoo, conditioned my hair with Obia Natural Hair care Babassu Deep conditioner and set my hair only with the Phytodefrissant. The words botanical hair relaxing balm did not sound good to me, but I wanted to risk it because the brand has an outstanding reputation for making luxury hair products.
I applied a small dab of Phytodefrissant to each section of my damp curls and combed through to remove any shed hair. Some sections of my hair began to dry so I lightly spritz water on them. I was also skeptical about how smooth my ends would turn out so I decided to finger coil before wrapping it around the rollers. The Phytodefrissant activates with heat hence, I used a blow dryer on the lowest heat around my head for 4 minutes.

My results completely surprised me as you can see from the video above. I never would have believed that my hair would actually set with just one styling product.
A few days later my hair still had some defined curls left.
Take home points-
The product you use for your roller set should be lightweight and glycerine free to attain bouncy curls that can last for a week or more.
Avoid rollers with teeth
Allow your hair to completely dry
Wrap your hair tightly around your rollers to enable your roots to be stretched. I had to try this a couple of times before I got it right.
Fingercoiling is another option for reducing frizz on your ends.

I don’t own a blow dryer because I’m weary of heat but before the end of this year I’d try rollersets and tag you because you’re my inspiration for that hunnay.
Definitely taking a mental note of these tips for anytime I want to try roller sets.
