I started using Sulphur 8 Medicated Braid Spray when my hair was still relaxed. My stylist then used to recommend that I use it while my hair was under a weave and it worked wonderfully. The only problem I had with it was the awful smell it gave my hair when the weave was taken out.
I noticed that, the repetitive layering of this spray on my hair and the tight tracks of the weave prevented air from accessing my scalp, thereby causing the stench that followed when the weave was taken out. Because of this, I discarded the product until a year into my natural hair journey. On that day I was in desperate need of a new hair mist and I found a bottle of this product hidden in a basket behind some of my luggage. Since then, this Sulphur 8 spray has become one of my staple products. It is available in Nigeria and can be found here.
Pros
I cannot do without this Sulphur 8 spray when my hair is in braids or twists. This product does what it says on the bottle. It stops itchy scalp, keeps my hair moisturised and doesn’t leave any product residue or flakes. Sometimes I use this product alone during my long-term protective styles. i.e. Box Braids, Kinky Twists.
Other times, I may use this product alongside Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier for maximum moisture retention and Schwarzkopf Gliss Liquid Silk Leave-in conditioner for a protein balance.
Cons
As much as I like what this product does for my hair, it is not close to my favourites when it comes to detangling. My hair feels stringy whenever I apply it for detangling and it makes the whole process longer. Another thing is the smell. As mentioned earlier, using this product on a long-term protective style can cause your hair to smell awful except if there is a way air can access your scalp. Otherwise, I would advise mixing it up with other products or not leaving your protective style in for too long.
In summary, it’s one of the best sprays I have discovered for my hair but I can’t use it to detangle. If any of my lovely readers have used this product, share your thoughts and comments below.
