9 Pro Tips To Nail Your Next Wash Day.
Hi, lovelies welcome to my blog! My name is Chinwe Juliet and today I’ll be sharing why naturals hate wash days and how to make it better.
(I have to reintroduce myself since I haven’t been here in a while) 🙃
It’s no secret that many naturals dread washdays. (I mean absolutely dread washdays). The length of time it takes plus the nightmare that is detangling and also the constant sectioning and retwisting (if your hair is thick), can be VERY frustrating.
In any case, no need to fret anymore because my new washday routine is here to help!
Products Used:
- Aviva Haircare Revive Shampoo
- Aviva Haircare Revive Treatment Conditioner
- Aviva Haircare Leave in Conditioner
Steps for my New Wash day Routine
15 minutes 45 minutes
The following are the steps for a quick and easy wash day routine on type 4 natural hair.
- Put hair in sections or in twists
The first step to this quick wash day is to make sure to section your natural hair. It is key that you put your hair in 4 sections if you are transitioning or you have short hair. If your hair is longer, you can twist your hair into 10 to 12 sections. This is to make sure your hair does not tangle or matte up while washing.
- Shampoo
It is essential that you use a moisturising shampoo to cleanse your natural hair. In the video above, I used the Revive Shampoo by Aviva Haircare and it made sure to cleanse my natural hair without stripping off all the moisture. My hair was so moisturised after shampooing that my curls were popping!
- Deep Conditioning
No matter how much you want to cut time on your wash day, never ever skip this step. It is essential for strengthening and nourishing your hair strands. I used Aviva Haircare Revive Treatment Conditioner and I loved the way it smelt and made my hair feel.
- Leave in Conditioner
After rinsing out the deep conditioner. I skipped the Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse and went straight into styling. I applied my leave in conditioner which helps to moisturise and condition my type 4 natural hair. I also used the Aviva Haircare Leave in conditioner. It left my hair feeling soft, silky and shiny!
- Game Changer Detangling Brush
The most important step to having a stress free and pain free wash day is this brush. This brush cuts the time of detangling to less than half and has me gliding my fingers through my natural kinky curly 4c hair.
- Twist or Braid to stretch natural hair
As soon as I am done, I re-twist my hair again and then section it into 3parts and pull the length of my hair around the perimeter of my head and secure it with a hair pin.
- Undo Twists or Braids
The next day, I take down the twists and the hair pins to reveal how easy and stretched my first day hair is. If your hair takes more than a day to dry then wait for 2 days if you can. My hair was not completely dry as you can see from the photo so although my roots were stretched, the parts that have more volume were damp.
- Shake & Fluff
Finally, all you need to do is separate your twists completely, shake and fluff, and you are good to go!
- Additional Steps Include
When styling, use leave in conditioner first, cream and then oil (LCO method). I didn’t do this in this video because, I was testing out the Aviva Haircare line and their products only come in Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave in conditioner. This application takes no time at all to integrate.
and that’s it!

How My Hair Reacted To It
This Aviva Shampoo is an award-wining product so I was really looking forward to using it and I was not disappointed at all.
The shampoo is very very moisturising. It did not dry out my hair and I just literally went in massaging all over my scalp to allow any product build-up to get loose and as you will see in the video, it felt so good.
I also apply the shampoo to the length of my twists just to make sure that if I had any flakes or any product build on it, I would be able to wash everything out. After rinsing out the shampoo, my curls were popping! That’s how you know you are using a good moisturising shampoo.
For the Aviva Haircare Conditioner, I use this as a deep conditioner. It has a non-irritating fruity smell which I like because I’m really sensitive to smell in products.
As seen in the video, I put it all over my hair and I make sure it goes in between the twists, I press it in and then I put it all over my hair and put my hair in a bun and place a shower cap over it. Then, I let it sit for about 30minutes and then I rinse it out.
I proceed to apply the Aviva Haircare Leave in Conditioner which is so amazing! It literally gave me the three things that I needed in any product that I look for. Which are to keep my hair soft, shiny and silky! Like! Those are the things that I always look for in products.
In combination with the detangling brush, it made my fingers glide through my hair. I was stunned. This is the first time I feel in my whole natural hair journey that I am able to comb and detangle my hair this thoroughly.
With this detangling brush, I have officially said goodbye to finger detangling! There’s no looking back from here!
In summary, the pros of both the Aviva Shampoo and Aviva Conditioner are;
- It is moisturising
- Leaves natural hair soft
- Leaves natural hair shiny
- and leaves a silky feeling on my natural hair
- It is also affordable
- and smells good too!
Cons:
- It comes in a 220ml medium sized bottle. I wish it were bigger!
- Also, the shampoo will sting your eyes if it comes in contact with it when rinsing.
Pros for the Aviva Haircare Leave in Conditioner:
- It is lightweight and good for low to medium porosity hair
- Leaves your hair feeling silky
Cons:
- Don’t use this leave in conditioner on dry natural hair. If you do, it will flake. It only works with damp hair or if you mist water on your hair before using it.
Pros for Detangling Brush
- Every single natural needs this brush. I mean EVERY NATURAL.
- It cuts detangling time by half
- It reduces breakage
- and it reduces forceful shedding while detangling.
- It is easy to clean and remove any hair stuck to the hair after detangling.
It hardly has any cons because I haven’t noticed any.
